I’ve recently worked on an amazing project with a global enterprise organisation with the objective of improving career development and mobility for their employees across the world.
In all honesty, talent acquisition and recruitment were never really on our radar as a core capability of our employee engagement platform, but actually it makes perfect sense!
The customer:
Blink is the first platform this customer has ever had that spans their entire workforce of over 70,000 employees. Bringing them all together in one place for the very first time.
They needed a way to share career opportunities internally with everyone easily and efficiently, so Blink was the perfect place!
The key business objective, set by their executives, was to improve career development and mobility for their people, whilst supporting talent acquisition and employee retention from within.
Our main KPI for this objective is to increase the number of internal applications for roles within the business. Essentially, make sure the incredible talent they already have isn’t lost and is nurtured and nourished so it can flourish!
The problem they needed to solve:
With such a huge, dispersed workforce with big growth plans, their Global Talent Team has to manage a large number of open roles, hiring processes, career websites, and recruitment initiatives.
They needed a way to meet their business objective whilst simultaneously improving and streamlining their internal communication on career opportunities.
What they wanted to do:
- Give existing employees the opportunity to apply for roles with a 5+ day head start before publishing roles externally
- Share opportunities based on location org-wide and with specific Groups
- Support the project of reducing the number of their career websites
- Support the project of reducing the number of Applicant Tracking Systems across the organisation
What we’ve done so far:
We’ve now delivered and launched our first version of careers in Blink for this customer, and are already in conversations with a number of other organisations on how we can support them with similar goals and objectives.
So, how have we done it?
1. Custom Navigation
We used our custom navigation feature to include Careers, making it very visible and easy to access.
2. Hub section
We created a dedicated section in the Hub called “Careers & Global Mobility”.
3. Folder structure
We built a folder structure within the Hub section in the simplest way we could to make it easy for employees to find exactly what they’re looking for.
4. Groups
We designed a Group structure for the Global Talent Team
5. User roles
The Talent Managers were assigned the Content Creator role for their respective Talent Groups, which gives them access to create and share content for those Groups without giving them too much administrative access.
6. Pages
We used our Pages functionality to create the job descriptions. The Talent Team can copy and paste the job descriptions they’ve already written, format them, and publish them for everyone to see. They can also post them directly to the Feed if they want more visibility on specific roles.
7. Feed post category
We created a Feed post category called “Career Opportunities” so it’s nice and clear what the post is about and makes it possible to filter the Feed if an employee wants to see all the posted career opportunities at once.
Step-by-step guides
We wrote a guide for the Talent Managers to refer back to if they need a little reminder on how to create and share a new career opportunity. We converted it into a PDF and it lives in the Hub for them to access whenever they need.
Training and enablement sessions
We ran a number of training sessions for the Talent team to ensure they were all enabled and raring to go. We recorded these sessions again for the Talent team to refer back to if they need to.
“How did you hear about this job?”
Finally, we added Blink to the list of options to the “How did you hear about this job?” question in the job applications themselves to help us track who is applying to these roles internally.
What could come with v2:
There is so much potential for version two, but the meatiest idea is a possible Applicant Tracking System integration.
This could:
- Automate the process of adding job descriptions to the Blink Hub removing the need to duplicate efforts and save time
- Allow employees to complete their application for roles without ever having to leave the Blink app
- Make it easier to track the number or internal applications
